Grupo Rodilla reaches an agreement to acquire the A Padaria Portuguesa chain

For Grupo Rodilla, with close to 300 establishments, this is the first operation in Portugal and the second internationally after its entry into Miami in 2019
Grupo Rodilla, which groups together the restaurant brands Rodilla, Hamburguesa Nostra, Vaca Nostra, Café de Indias and Jamaica, has reached an agreement to acquire 100% of A Padaria Portuguesa, one of Portugal's leading restaurant brands.
The Portuguese chain was founded 15 years ago by Nuno Carvalho and specialises in producing a wide range of high-quality bakery and pastry products, as well as lunch and salad menus. It currently employs 1,000 people and has 84 establishments in cities such as Lisbon, Oporto, Cascais and Estoril, which will be added to the Rodilla Group's 300 points of sale. Furthermore, A Padaria Portuguesa has two bakeries in Lisbon and Oporto where it produces its high-quality products.
For Grupo Rodilla, which belongs to Damm and has a track record dating back over 85 years, this is the most significant operation it has carried out internationally after its entry into Miami in 2019 and the first in Europe.
Following the approval of the transaction by the AdC (Autoridade da Concorrênia), the Portuguese competition regulator, Grupo Rodilla will focus on ensuring a thorough transition period, keeping the focus on the management of the teams and the company's day-to-day activities. Furthermore, it will implement a growth plan for the Portuguese chain, with a view to strengthening the brand's Portuguese character and boosting its international expansion.
Nuno Carvalho, founder and CEO of the Portuguese chain, says: "I still see A Padaria Portuguesa as a real rough diamond, with huge potential for growth. Grupo Rodilla has all the right characteristics - in particular financial strength, management skills, values and a strong focus on people development - to accelerate the brand's investment and expansion cycle, whose natural market is now the Iberian Peninsula, taking it to new levels.
I am very proud to have created and developed a brand from scratch that has gone on to become one of the most relevant in the country and, most importantly, is renowned around the world. This success is the result of a decade and a half of hard work, with the consumer at the heart thereof at all times, carried out by an extraordinary team, who I greatly admire and who I'm eternally grateful to. The investment the company has made in its human capital and in building a strong and cohesive team has been the key to its success.
María Carceller Arce, CEO of Grupo Rodilla, said: "Both A Padaria Portuguesa and Grupo Rodilla share fundamental values, being family-run businesses that offer high quality products and exceptional service to their customers. At Grupo Rodilla we value a friendly service, as well as craftsmanship in the daily preparation of our products with the highest quality raw materials, a philosophy that is perfectly aligned with the Portuguese chain.
A Padaria Portuguesa has been a model of success since the outset and Grupo Rodilla is committed to continuing to drive its growth. A union that will strengthen our mission to deliver exceptional experiences to our customers"
