Damm makes the wishes of 275 vulnerable people come true with the 'Solidarity Christmas Letters' initiative
Through this action, now in its fifth edition, the Damm team has made it possible for people at risk of social exclusion or unwanted loneliness to receive a gift this festive season
Damm has launched a new edition of the 'Christmas Solidarity Letters’ initiative, one of the most high-profile and participatory actions of its #LIVE TO BE PART OF THE CHANGE corporate volunteering programme. This year, coinciding with the fifth anniversary of the project, the company's staff have once again mobilised to bring the magic of Christmas to those who need it most, making the wishes of 275 people in situations of vulnerability or unwanted loneliness come true.
The initiative is organised through an exchange of letters that allows volunteers to learn first-hand about the wishes of the people assisted by the social NGOs the company works with. Based on these letters, Damm's teams are personally responsible for making them come true, buying the gifts and delivering them to the organisations and thus strengthening a direct and close link between volunteers and beneficiaries.
On this occasion, we partnered with Fundació Amics de la Gent Gran, Fundació Arrels, Fundació Assís and Residència Associació Sagrada Família per a Ancians, in Catalonia; with the Fundación Amigos de los Mayores, in Madrid and Valencia; with the Fundación Jesús Abandonado, in Murcia; and with the Santa Casa da Misericórdia, in Santarém (Portugal). This joint initiative has succeeded in broadening its regional and social scope, reaching people in particularly vulnerable situations.
By keeping up actions such as 'Solidarity Letters', Damm reaffirms its commitment to society and the regions it operates in, fostering a model of active and transformative volunteering. An approach that places the team members at the heart of social action and makes them agents of change, with the power to generate a positive and tangible impact on their environment.
"It is exciting to see how Damm's people do their utmost every Christmas to make wishes come true for those in vulnerable situations, demonstrating that our responsibility goes beyond business management. It's about being close to people and bringing enthusiasm and real support where it is most needed," says Alba Linares, ESG & Sustainability Officer at Damm.
Damm and its commitment to social action
Through its #LIVE TO BE PART OF THE CHANGE volunteering plan, Damm fosters the participation of its staff in social and environmental actions throughout the country. In the last year alone, more than 1,280 people - including staff and external volunteers - took part in more than 26 solidarity actions, devoting more than 2,426 hours to causes such as protecting natural environment, social inclusion and combatting unwanted loneliness.
These initiatives include "La Festa de la Platja" (the Beach Party), an environmental awareness day that brings together hundreds of people every year to clean up the sand on the beach of El Prat de Llobregat by removing microplastics, and "Moments de Pel·lícula" (Movie Moments), a solidarity film session held at the Antigua Fábrica Estrella Damm where volunteers from the company accompany elderly people. Damm also fosters and participates in charity races such as the Magic Line SJD and the Oxfam Intermón Trailwalker.
