Damm promotes a new can recycling campaign on the Mediterranean coast with 400 compacting machines

The Nestea logo now features on some of the compactors for the first time, joining the existing designs from other Damm brands

An aluminium can can be turned back into new packaging in almost 60 days if recycled correctly. Damm has installed nearly 400 can compactors in various locations along the Mediterranean coast, situated in strategic, high-traffic areas, to help close this loop and encourage responsible consumption habits.

For more than 30 years, the company has been promoting this initiative, with the aim of making the recycling of aluminium cans simple and accessible, encouraging the correct separation of waste and the subsequent reuse of this infinitely recyclable material. As a new feature this season, it has added more than 250 Nestea-branded can compactors, joining the already recognisable compactors bearing the logos of other iconic brands in Damm’s portfolio.

The campaign expects to recover around six tons of aluminium during the summer season, equivalent to around 600,000 recycled cans. Once collected, the cans are compacted and transported for treatment and transformation into new raw materials, promoting the reduction of resource consumption and moving towards a more efficient circular economy model.

According to figures from the Aluminium Association, recycling aluminium saves up to 95% of the energy required to produce new aluminium from raw materials, making the proper recovery of these containers a key tool for reducing the environmental impact and emissions associated with their production.

“At Damm, we go to great lengths to foster initiatives that help reduce the environmental impact of our operations and encourage more sustainable habits among consumers. For more than three decades, our annual campaign to promote the recycling of cans has demonstrated how collaboration and collective engagement can have a real positive impact on the preservation of the natural environment, particularly in areas as valuable as our coastlines,” says Juan Antonio López Abadía, Director of Energy and Environmental Optimisation at Damm.
