Damm receives EcoVadis gold medal for its commitment to sustainability

The company scored 79 points in the assessment based on its drive towards a more efficient and circular model, improved natural resource management, and reduced logistics emissions

Damm has been awarded the gold medal by EcoVadis, one of the leading international platforms for evaluating corporate sustainability. This milestone strengthens the company's leadership in sustainability, placing it in the top 5% of companies worldwide according to the organisation.

The EcoVadis assessment analyses companies' performance in four key areas: environment, labour practices and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement. In this latest edition, Damm received an overall score of 79 points out of 100 and a percentile of 96. Specifically, it scored 83 points in the environment, 79 in labour practices and human rights, 71 in ethics, and 75 in sustainable procurement.

This certification reflects Damm's constant work to move towards a more efficient, circular and environmentally friendly business model. The company has strengthened its commitment to renewable energies, expanding its photovoltaic park and consolidating its position as the brewery with the largest surface area of solar panels on the Iberian Peninsula. It has also continued to invest in energy efficient production systems, which have led to a 45% reduction in energy consumption per hectolitre of beer produced over the last decade.

Meanwhile, over the last year, the company has reduced CO emissions from its logistics operations by more than 30%, becoming the first mass market company in Spain to obtain the second Lean & Green star awarded by the Association of Manufacturers and Distributors (AECOC).

Damm has also pushed forward with the consolidation of its ‘green warehouses’ model, a new generation of logistics centres that integrate renewable energy, sustainable mobility and resource optimisation. Similarly, the company continues its commitment to equipping its factories with cogeneration and trigeneration plants to generate electricity for self-consumption from the biogas generated during purification. Damm has launched an innovative project at its factory in Espinardo (Murcia) by installing an upgrading plant that will transform biogas into biomethane. This trailblazing technology will prevent the emission of 1,200 tonnes of CO per year, equivalent to the emissions generated by 1,000 return flights from Madrid to New York.

In terms of water management, Damm works to ensure that every drop is used efficiently and responsibly. The company was a trailblazer in the sector by implementing the calculation of the water footprint per unit of product, a key tool for optimising this resource in all phases of the production process. Thanks to continuous improvement measures and more efficient technologies, Damm has managed to reduce water consumption in its factories by 36% since 2008, moving towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly industrial model.

This award consolidates Damm's position as a driving force for transformation in the food and beverage sector, fostering an innovative and responsible industrial model that generates a positive and lasting impact on the environment.
