Damm unveils Bohemia Reserva 150, a beer to celebrate its 150th anniversary
Its name comes from the historic Bohemia Brewery, now known as the Estrella Damm Old Brewery, and its image is inspired by the first Damm labels from the late 19th century
More than 150 years ago, August Kuentzmann Damm, a young man from Alsace, and his wife Melanie settled in Barcelona to pursue their dream: brewing beer. In 1876, they opened their own brewery and created a beer adapted to the Mediterranean climate: the first Estrella. Today, a century and a half later, the spirit of August and Melanie lives on and continues to this day without losing its founding essence.
To mark its 150th anniversary, Damm has launched Bohemia Reserva 150, a beer designed to honour this legacy and toast all those who have accompanied it on this journey.
Bohemia Reserva 150 takes its name from the Bohemia Brewery, the old brewery complex inaugurated in 1905 on Carrer Rosselló in Barcelona (now the Estrella Damm Old Brewery), a space that has endured to this day as one of the city's main cultural and social centres. The image of Bohemia Reserva 150 also connects with this legacy: the label is inspired by the first Damm labels from the late 19th century and reinterprets them with a contemporary and modernist language.
A beer to savour over time
In 2001, to mark Damm's 125th anniversary, A.K. Damm was launched, a beer created in honour of August K. Damm. In celebration of their 150th anniversary this year, Damm's master brewers have created Bohemia Reserva 150: a slow-maturing lager brewed with barley malt, rice and hops, using 100% natural ingredients, which are slowly and gradually matured to achieve great depth and balance.
This patient process reflects the knowledge and experience acquired by Damm's master brewers over generations and connects directly with that founding spirit that places time and craftsmanship at the heart of beer making. The result is an intense but balanced beer, with moderate bitterness and herbal nuances, which expresses the character and freshness of the company's brewing tradition.
Damm's 150th anniversary beer is also a versatile beverage, perfect for accompanying meat and stews (from hamburgers to meat-heavy stews that require a beer with character), tapas and fried foods (such as croquettes, calamari or patatas bravas, as the carbonation and alcohol lighten the mouthfeel of fried foods), cured meats (where the contrast softens the fat and enhances the spicy notes of the meat), cured cheeses (the bitterness of the beer balances the creaminess of the cheese, while the cheese highlights the sweetness of the malt) and with oily and smoked fish (such as sardines, mackerel or salmon, where the intensity of the fish requires a beer with personality).
Bohemia Reserva 150 is now available on Damm's online store (shop.damm.com) and will be available in bars, restaurants and supermarkets throughout the country in the coming days.
Tasting notes
Deep golden in colour with amber highlights, Bohemia Reserva 150 is clean and sparkling, with a plentiful, ivory-coloured head. On the nose, it stands out for its aromatic intensity, marked by caramelised malt and subtle, fresh, herbal notes from the hops.
On the palate, sweet cereal notes and a gentle warmth appear, with a moderate, well-integrated bitterness. Its robust body and silky, smooth mouthfeel round off the experience, inviting you to keep discovering it.
