Damm celebrates its 150th anniversary
The company has put together a full line-up of activities that will run throughout the year and take the celebrations to different parts of the country
The dream of a Mediterranean-style brewery started out 150 years ago in Barcelona. Today, a century and a half later, Damm commemorates its 150th anniversary by highlighting a history marked by a commitment to people, culture and the local region. To celebrate this milestone, the company has put together a packed line-up of activities that will run throughout the year and take the celebrations to different parts of the country.
The history of Damm dates back to 1876, when master brewer August Kuentzmann Damm and his cousin Joseph Damm left their native Alsace and settled in Barcelona to fulfil their dream: to brew beer. That modest project, born in the midst of the city's industrial transformation, laid the foundations for an initiative that has lasted until today.
A century and a half later, that dream has become a business group with a presence on five continents, recognised for its capacity for innovation, sustainable growth and commitment to the region where it was founded. The leading Mediterranean beer, Estrella Damm, has been joined by more than 30 specialities and beer brands, as well as a broad portfolio of products that includes water, soft drinks and dairy products, in addition to catering businesses, wide-ranging distribution, event management and innovation based on data and artificial intelligence.
A logo to commemorate our 150 years
To mark the occasion, this week saw the unveiling of Damm's 150th anniversary commemorative logo, which encapsulates the company's legacy and its vision for the future. The logo will feature in all the main events, projects and initiatives linked to the 150th anniversary and can already be seen on the façades of some of Damm's most iconic buildings, such as the Estrella Damm Old Brewery and the Estrella Damm Factory in El Prat de Llobregat.
Estrella Damm's 150th anniversary commemorative logo will be present on both the can and the bottle and in the different Estrella Damm formats
The 150th anniversary logo will also be present on Estrella Damm's packaging, highlighting the brand's history and transferring the spirit of the commemoration to all points of contact with the consumer. In the coming weeks, Estrella Damm's new image will be available in the on-trade and food channels, as well as in the Damm Shop.
Bohemia, the 150th anniversary beer
In 2001, on the occasion of Damm's 125th anniversary, A.K. was launched. Damm: the perfect combination of German character with French smoothness and refinement, in homage to its founder, August Kuentzmann Damm.
This year, to celebrate Damm's 150th anniversary, the company's master brewers will launch Bohemia, a special slow-aged, intense and balanced beer that takes its name from the iconic former Factory.
A shared celebration that will cover the whole of the country
The company will be rolling out a wide-ranging programme of activities throughout the year to mark this anniversary, with music playing a starring role in events across the country.
In May, the Parc del Fòrum will become the venue for “La festa del 150”, a huge celebration with a musical line-up that will bring together some of the most prominent voices and bands on the Catalan music scene. There is also a series of one-off concerts scheduled in iconic venues in Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, Castellón and Andorra, showcasing a diverse line-up of emerging and established artists, with around 50 concerts between September and October.
The Estrella Damm Old Brewery, now a landmark in Barcelona's social and cultural life, will also play a central role in the 150th anniversary celebrations. Throughout the year, this emblematic venue, which annually hosts more than 228 activities and receives more than 106,000 visitors, will become a meeting point for the celebration with a special line-up of activities based on another of the pillars of its identity: gastronomy.
The Old Brewery unveils a new immersive space to experience beer culture
The 150th anniversary celebrations will reach another high point at the end of the year with the opening of the Immersive Space at the Estrella Damm Old Brewery, which has been created to continue promoting beer culture and offer a unique experience based on the history and brand.
As a permanent and immersive exhibition, the Estrella Damm Old Brewery Immersive Space will let visitors enjoy a dynamic journey through Damm's 150-year history. The experience will cover the company's main milestones, from Estrella Damm's most emblematic campaigns to its collaboration with organisations in the fields of sport, culture and gastronomy, offering a complete immersion in the company's culture and identity.
Damm is celebrating 150 years of shared history with society through this schedule of events, strengthening its commitment to culture, gastronomy, music and the region. This commemoration not only pays tribute to the journey taken since 1876 but also projects the company into the future with the same vocation, innovative spirit and roots in the environment that have defined Damm for generations.
