The Estrella Damm Old Brewery once again opens its doors to celebrate La Mercè
On 26 and 27 September, the space will host a special series of concerts as part of the BAM, with free beer tastings and a range of gastronomic products provided by local food trucks
The Estrella Damm Old Brewery will once again become one of the epicentres of the La Mercè festival during the brewery's 150th anniversary. On 26 and 27 September, the venue in carrer Rosselló will open its doors to twelve projects that are set to unveil some of the most innovative emerging talent on today's music scene. The programme will be complemented by free tastings of Damm beers and a range of culinary products provided by local food trucks.
The line-up, which forms part of the BAM (Barcelona Acció Musical) programme, will bring together singer-songwriters, folk, pop, urban music, rock and experimental electronic projects that reflect the vitality of the emerging musical landscape. This stylistic diversity will also extend to the live performances, with shows featuring genres such as dance, performance art, visuals, lighting design and virtual identities.
The performances on Saturday, 26 September will include Carmen Aciar, who’ll kick off the event by blending singer-songwriter styles and Argentine folk music with Mediterranean sounds, Angela Blackburn, with a performance merging salsa, diaspora beats and club electronica, and Jovedry, who’ll combine alternative pop, experimental rock and synthetic textures in a constantly evolving live show.
The first day will also provide the audience with a chance to learn more about the universe of Admire, in which dancehall, afrobeat, experimental pop and dance converge, Cristina Len, a Catalan singer, composer and producer who blends electronica, urban music and charro folklore, and the immersive show by Bofirax based on analogue synthesisers, string instruments and a painstaking lighting design.
The programme on Sunday, 27 September will explore new musical and scenic languages with the duo Arar, who’ll craft an intimate and experimental live performance with their voices, guitar and saxophones, and Mala Freixura, which will join the bill with an open-minded approach expanding the diversity of the BAM’s languages.
Also performing will be AL-V, with a conceptual pop project focusing on memory, grief and the acceptance of death, Asra3, combining polyrhythms, microtonal tunings, hyperpop and digital humour in a creation specifically conceived for the BAM, and MERCÈ, a project that transports live performance to a playful and virtual universe through a violin, code and three-dimensional avatars. Maig will wrap up the day with PROU, an album defined by raw guitars, organic drums and a fresh take on pop-rock.
The musical performances will be accompanied by various culinary offerings provided by local food trucks, tempting everyone to experience La Mercè with all their senses. Between the concerts, the audiences will also be able to enjoy free beer tastings and savour Damm’s range of speciality beers at first hand. Four daily sessions have been scheduled (at 2:00 pm, 3:00 pm, 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm) in the Weighing Room. You can attend by queueing at the door before each session begins, until the venue reaches its full capacity.
Estrella Damm’s musical line-up for La Mercè will continue on Bogatell Beach
Estrella Damm’s schedule on Saturday, 26 September will also include the Mediterràniament Stage on Bogatell Beach with Estrella Damm’s La Mercè Concerts. From 8:00 pm until well into the early hours, Al·lèrgiques al Pol·len, La Pegatina, Love of Lesbian and Svetlana will headline one of La Mercè’s major musical events.
