Estrella de Levante creates a Gose style beer for the summer season

Alma Mater's chef, Juan Guillamón, and sommelier Héctor Pastor have collaborated with the company to pair the classic German-style beer with different culinary proposals

Estrella de Levante continues its commitment to seasonal beers with the brewing of a Gose style beer created by the master brewers for the summer months. This beer originates from Germany and has been brewed since the 14th century. It is named after the river Gose, whose waters were used for the brewing of this beer because their particular composition provided the characteristic salinity of this traditional beer.

Estrella de Levante's master brewers have reinterpreted this popular beer style with ingredients from the Region of Murcia. The characteristic salinity of the style is achieved with salt from the Mar Menor, from the salt mines of San Pedro del Pinatar, and with a touch of Murcia peach and grape juice. A refreshing and smooth beer is the result: very drinkable and with an original flavour.

Maribel Romero, Marketing Manager at Estrella de Levante, explains that "with this type of seasonal beers, Estrella de Levante is committed to the creativity and brewery interpretation of our specialists and at the same time we offer our more beer-loving customers new interesting options to enjoy our products".

For the pairing of this beer, Estrella de Levante has been advised by the chef of the Alma Mater Restaurant in Murcia, Juan Guillamón, recent finalist as new chef of the year at the Madrid Fusión gastronomic fair, and by the sommelier Héctor Pastor, Estrella de Levante's tasting master.

For Guillamón, this beer "combines with fatty and strong flavours as it offers a clean mouthfeel very characteristic of sparkling wines or ciders, due to its salinity and fruity flavour". Guillamón, who has prepared a specific menu to accompany Estrella de Levante's Gose style beer, adds that "it also pairs excellently with similar flavours. It goes very well with simple ceviche or tempura. It is a beer that goes well with more specific culinary preparations, with a mixture of flavours".

Estrella de Levante's Gose style beer is now available in around fifty on-trade outlets in the Region of Murcia, Albacete, Alicante and Almería, and will be available only on draught until September. It can be tasted in these establishments, which will also offer it with special pairing recommendations.
